When you install Windows on your computer you must use a bootable device. These days the USB flash disks or external hard drives are very popular, instead of DVDs and CDs.

It is more convenient to use the USB because it has a small size and there are products with 10-100 GB space, so space is not an issue.

Method 1: Rufus

This is my favorite method for the following reasons:

  • Rufus is portable, no installation needed, just double-click¬†the executable file
  • it detects automatically the USB device, so the risk to format a HDD partition by mistake is minimized

Start Rufus. Please note¬†that if no USB flash stick is inserted, didn’t show anything.

But if you insert the USB and start Rufus again, it will detect it. If the name of the device is confusing, you can browse its content first on Windows interface (My Computer or This PC) and optionally you can format it and assign another name using right click menu.

Then click SELECT and choose the ISO image file.

Click START. A warning will appear telling you that the device will be formatted. Click Yes.

And that’s all,

The next step is to restart the computer with the USB device connected, but please be sure that you selected from BIOS menu that the first boot option (priority) to be the USB.
